AWS Bedrock adds GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast, and Claude Sonnet 5.5 to its model lineup
Amazon's Bedrock model lineup now includes OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast, plus Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Grok 4.7, per the October 5 AWS Weekly Roundup.
What happened
Amazon Bedrock is adding four new frontier models to expand model choices for builders, alongside the previously announced public preview of Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI — agents built on a customized version of OpenAI's Agents API that run entirely inside AWS with existing identities, permissions, and governance controls.
The four models
- OpenAI GPT-6.1 Sol — described as an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol that approaches GPT-6 Astra across demanding evaluations at roughly one-fifth of the cost, with strong performance on agentic coding, computer use, and professional work.
- OpenAI GPT-6 Astra UltraFast mode — a premium speed tier for GPT-6 Astra delivering up to 6x faster inference in the API, with up to 300 tokens per second.
- Anthropic Claude Sonnet 5.5 — a smarter, more efficient Sonnet and a step up from Sonnet 5, stronger for coding as part of a larger coding strategy.
- SpaceXAI Grok 4.7 — better mixed-document handling, more dependable repo-scale coding with planning and error recovery, and enhanced browser-use agents.
Why it matters
Enterprises already experimenting with Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI can now pick from all four flagship models inside the same AWS-native governance envelope — model choice is becoming the differentiator, not just agent frameworks.
