OpenAI shipped Codex CLI 0.162.1 as a stable patch fixing a TUI crash when async questions contain multiple lines and startup failures caused by daemon feature-compatibility checks.
What happened
OpenAI tagged Codex CLI rust-v0.162.1 as a stable release today (October 9, 2026), one day after 0.162.0. It is a patch release: two bug fixes cherry-picked on top of the 0.162.0 line.
Why it matters
- TUI crash with multiline async questions (#51866): the CLI crashed when an asynchronous question contained multiple lines. Multiline question titles are now wrapped and annotated line by line, preserving line breaks and full hyperlink destinations.
- Daemon startup failures from feature-compatibility checks (#52648): a running shared background server owns its feature settings until restart, so differences from CLI config files or defaults no longer trigger a compatibility warning or restart request. Compatibility checks now apply only to explicit command-line feature overrides.
Context
The 0.162.0 line was released October 8, 2026. This 0.162.1 patch addresses two regressions on that line. Alpha-series pre-releases for 0.163.0 are also in the feed, but 0.162.1 is the latest stable.
