User reports Dots calls failing two days after launch — Tibo says a fix is coming

A Dots user reports calls to their Dot failing on every phone, two days after launch, with Tibo saying a fix is coming.

What happened

On October 1, 2026, a user of OpenAI's new Dots agent (Developing Adventures, @DevAdventur3s) reported that calls to their Dot were failing with a "Call failed" message on every phone they tried — just two days after OpenAI launched Dots at DevDay on September 29. The user said the same Dot had completed a 28-minute call the previous day. According to the user's account of the exchange, OpenAI product leader Thibault "Tibo" Sottiaux (@thsottiaux) replied that a fix was coming and suggested a Dot might be busy when it did not answer. The user also noted that OpenAI's status page showed Dots at 100% availability with no incident at the time — aggregate service status can miss an individual access problem.

Why it matters

This is the first public reliability report about Dots voice access since launch, landing early in a gradual rollout. It is a single user's report, not a confirmed service-wide outage, and there is no evidence the Dot's ongoing tasks were affected — OpenAI says background work continues between conversations. For context, OpenAI says Dots can be reached through ChatGPT, Slack or Teams, with calls through ChatGPT; dots cannot initiate calls to their users at launch. The incident's significance depends on whether the failure was isolated or recurs as access expands.
