Geekbench: Dots agents run on 9-core AMD EPYC VMs — 6x the multi-core score of Meta Muse's agents
Geekbench 7 results show each OpenAI dot runs on a 9-core AMD EPYC 9V74 VM with 9.73GB of RAM — roughly 6x the multi-core score of Meta Muse's agents.
What happened
Tom's Hardware (Shane Downing, Sep 30, 2026) first reported Geekbench 7 results showing OpenAI's Dots agents run on nine-core slices of an AMD EPYC 9V74 server CPU (Genoa, Zen 4, base ~2.6GHz / turbo up to ~3.7GHz), with 9.73GB of memory and 32GB of storage per dot VM. A pre-launch benchmark shared on X by INIYSA on Sept 25 showed a single-core score of 1,667 and a multi-core score of 9,435; six post-launch submissions land at 1,512–1,614 single-core and 8,135–8,991 multi-core. WCCFTech independently searched the Geekbench 7 database and confirmed the figures. Meta's Muse agents, by comparison, run on two-core AMD EPYC 9D25 instances with 7.75–8GB of memory and 100GB of storage — median scores of 1,041 single-core and 1,394 multi-core — giving Dots a ~6x multi-core lead and ~1.5x single-core lead. The benchmarked dot VM ran Ubuntu 24.04.3; a user-reported dot confirmed Debian Linux preloaded with Chromium, Blender, GIMP, Inkscape, Kdenlive, Godot, FreeCAD, OpenSCAD, KiCad, QGIS, ParaView, 3D Slicer, plus Python, Node.js, and Git.
Why it matters
OpenAI markets dots as always-on agents with "their own cloud computer" — now we know exactly what that computer is. The specs confirm dots run on substantially beefier VMs than Meta's Muse, but the numbers also raise questions about the CPU arms race for always-on agents: Meta reportedly serves 500,000+ daily active users, and whether dots hold their allocated cores while idle is unknown. Muse keeps a clear edge on storage (100GB vs 32GB).
