OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse both skip UK consumers at launch

Verified· Sep 30, 2026Published Sep 30, 2026

OpenAI is rolling out dots to Pro users everywhere except the EEA, Switzerland and the UK — while Meta's Muse has reached only the US and Canada — and neither company has explained why.

What happened

Per OpenAI's help centre, dots are rolling out to Pro subscribers in markets "excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK", while Business Premium workspaces get access across all supported ChatGPT regions.

OpenAI's release notes say the Pro exclusion applies "at launch", access is for adults 18 and over, and OpenAI plans to expand dots to more users soon — with no dates or countries given.

Meta's Muse launched in the US on 8 September and has since reached Canada; Meta has announced no UK date.

Neither OpenAI nor Meta has stated a reason for the UK's absence; the UK's Information Commissioner's Office has published general views on agentic AI but has not commented on either product.

Why it matters

UK consumers are sitting out two of September's biggest AI agent launches, with no explanation from either company and no UK timeline. UK small businesses can reach dots through a paid Business Premium team plan (two-seat minimum), though OpenAI has not confirmed UK-specific availability or pricing — and the business takes on the data-protection duties for whatever the dot can access.
