Dots rollout fine print: Europe excluded at launch, first dot free — but its real price is still unknown

OpenAI's fine print shows who actually gets a dot at launch — and who waits. Pro users in Europe are excluded, and the first month's usage is free.

#Who gets a dot at launch

OpenAI is rolling dots out gradually, so eligibility does not mean every account sees one yet. Dots launch for ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. For Pro users, those markets do not include the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom; for Business Premium users, dots are available in all supported ChatGPT regions. Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare users can try the beta only when a workspace administrator enables it — it is off by default. Users under 18 are excluded. OpenAI says access may take several days to reach an account.

#How to set one up

Dots are created in the ChatGPT desktop app or on desktop web; they cannot currently be created on mobile or mobile web. A new dot's default handle is @yourname-dot, which becomes @yourname-agentname once the dot is named. You can schedule reminders and recurring checks, pause a dot from its profile, or reset it — resetting deletes the dot along with its conversations, saved memories, and scheduled tasks.

#The pricing fine print

The first dot is included in Pro and Business Premium plans at no extra cost. For the first month after launch, dots usage will not count toward eligible plan allowances; OpenAI says it will share usage terms for each plan afterward. Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits, while tasks a dot starts or manages in Codex or ChatGPT Work count as usual. OpenAI also says that in the future, users will be able to add more dots and scale each dot's output by increasing its speed or the total amount of work it can take on per month.

#Why it matters

An agent that runs all day burns compute that chat never did, so exempting dot conversations from usage limits for one month reads like a trial period before the real pricing appears. If you bought Pro for raw message volume, the new deal may not favor you; if you want a worker, it might. Either way, the actual long-term price of running a dot is still unknown.
