GPT-5.5 retires from ChatGPT, Codex and ChatGPT Work on October 14
OpenAI is retiring GPT-5.5 from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex on all plans October 14 — check your configs and move anything pinned to it before then.
What happened
OpenAI has set October 14, 2026 as the retirement date for GPT-5.5 in ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex across all plans, per OpenAI's pricing documentation. The API is not affected — this retirement applies only to the ChatGPT/Codex side.
What it means
If your config, workspace defaults, saved model settings, custom agents, scheduled tasks, or scripts still pin gpt-5.5, they will stop working in ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex after October 14. The replacement to move to is GPT-6-family models (e.g. GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex).
Why it matters
This is the cleanup after the GPT-6 rollout: OpenAI is clearing the old model line out of its subscription products so usage and defaults consolidate on GPT-6. For builders with pinned configs this is a practical migration deadline, not a new launch.
