GPT-6.1 Terra lands on Amazon Bedrock: AWS lists it generally available

Verified· Oct 26, 2026Published Oct 26, 2026

AWS lists OpenAI GPT-6.1 Terra as generally available on Amazon Bedrock, letting teams call the new computer-use model through Bedrock APIs or route ChatGPT Work and Codex through Bedrock.

What happened

AWS says OpenAI GPT-6.1 Terra is generally available on Amazon Bedrock, the same day OpenAI launched the model for ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API. Teams can call it through Bedrock APIs or configure ChatGPT Work and Codex to use it through Bedrock. AWS describes Terra as offering detailed visual reasoning, computer use, improved factuality, and more natural writing compared with GPT-5.6 Terra, with text and image input and a context window of up to 1 million tokens. AWS reports Terra scored 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra on OpenAI's Agents' Last Exam, performed on par with GPT-6 Astra, and completed tasks more than three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. AWS says Terra's input and output token prices are at least 50 percent lower than GPT-6.1 Sol's and GPT-5.6 Terra's, but does not state the prices themselves, and gives no specific regional availability.

Why it matters

For organizations already on AWS, Terra is now reachable inside their existing Bedrock setup with Bedrock's access, audit, and security controls, rather than only through OpenAI directly. The actual cost, supported regions, and performance on a team's own tasks still need checking against Bedrock's documentation. This is a distribution expansion of the Oct 26 Terra launch, not a new model.
