#What happened

OpenAI's status page logged a new incident on the morning of October 6, 2026 titled "Elevated errors affecting multiple products including ChatGPT (conversations), Image generations, Spaces and Pages, API rehydration, and Dots." The first update, posted at 2:41 AM UTC, said OpenAI was investigating the issue. Three minutes later, at 2:44 AM UTC, a second update said: "We have applied the mitigation and are monitoring the recovery."

#What was affected

Five components in the ChatGPT product group: Conversations, ChatGPT Work, Image Generation, dots, and Space. The incident title also names Spaces and Pages and API rehydration. The incident was listed as Monitoring with degraded performance, and the main status page displayed it as an active, ongoing banner affecting ChatGPT.

#Also that morning

The status page showed a second active incident — "Elevated error rates in Codex Cloud" — with a mitigation applied and recovery under monitoring. A third incident, "Elevated Work Mode errors," was mitigated with recovery under monitoring. Earlier Oct 6 entries — elevated errors in API Platform login and administration APIs (1:35 AM update) and in ChatGPT conversations (12:01 AM update) — both fully recovered.

As of this writing, status.openai.com shows "We're fully operational" with no active incidents.

#Why it matters

This is the second outage wave since the Sep 29 DevDay launch-day incident. For a product — Dots — positioned as always-on agents that keep working while users are away, repeated reliability incidents land harder: the whole pitch is that you don't need to watch it.
