OpenAI rolls out GPT-Live-1.1: 13 new voices and better accents across ChatGPT, Codex, and Dots
OpenAI is rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 plus a mini Quip version in ChatGPT Voice, with 13 new voices across seven languages, more natural accents, and less spoken "checking..." narration. Codex and dots get the update too; the API follows. Rolling out today to all users.
What happened
On Oct 15, 2026 OpenAI began rolling out GPT-Live-1.1, an update to its real-time voice system, alongside GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, a mini version of the model, in ChatGPT Voice (per OpenAI's own release notes). The update adds 13 new Live voices across seven languages: French (Aube, Rivage), German (Sonna, Miko), Hindi (Leher, Neer), Japanese (Himari ひまり, Rindō りんどう), Korean (Haetsal 햇살, Hanul 한울), and Mexican Spanish (Tinta, Arrullo), plus Bubbie in English. OpenAI says accents are more natural across languages, and Live now uses a wider range of short phrases to signal when it is searching, cutting down the spoken progress narration ("checking...") that made the assistant sound stuck. The rollout reaches ChatGPT, Codex, and dots, is rolling out today to all users, and is coming soon to the API. Voice selection is under Settings > Voice; the voices shown may vary by region and account. OpenAI's announcement also notes more natural delegation and improved steerability.
Why it matters
Voice stops being English-first for live conversations: Korean, Hindi, Japanese and the rest get native voices with better accents at the same time. Because the same model upgrade ships to Codex and dots, voice agents across OpenAI's surfaces get quieter, more natural turn-taking. Developers stay on the earlier model until the API version lands.
