OpenAI hires Graham Seamans from SpaceX/xAI as sales lead for its cybersecurity business, Bloomberg reports - the latest poach in the OpenAI-Musk talent war as the company ramps enterprise sales ahead of a possible IPO.

What happened

OpenAI has hired Graham Seamans from SpaceX's AI division to serve as sales lead for its cybersecurity business line, Bloomberg reported on October 17. Seamans led xAI's sales team since August 2025, including the push to sell the Grok chatbot to Wall Street firms; before xAI he spent about eight years at MongoDB. He is the latest of several sales and compute hires OpenAI has pulled from Musk's AI operations: since September OpenAI has also hired Brian McCarthy and Ismail Elmas (both formerly of Cursor, which SpaceX acquired for $60 billion in August), plus staffers from SpaceX's AI compute team including Uday Ruddarraju and Brent Mayo. OpenAI declined to comment.

Why it matters

The hire is part of OpenAI's full-speed commercialization push: expanding enterprise customer sales and building new revenue sources such as advertising ahead of a potential public listing. It also keeps the talent war with Musk's camp hot - Musk previously sued OpenAI over its for-profit shift and lost, and has since folded xAI into SpaceX.
