What happened
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Space, a shared workspace where teams build interactive pages (charts, images, checklists, dashboards) with AI, alongside a Meetings feature that takes notes and saves personalized summaries and follow-up steps. The announcement came via ChatGPT's posts on X on September 29th, the day of DevDay in San Francisco.
The Meetings plugin automatically creates notes and summaries with action items in ChatGPT Space. Users can keep the notes private or share them, then ask ChatGPT to update a project plan or draft a follow-up. The summaries are meant to be personalized — drawing on what ChatGPT knows about the user and the work they've done together — rather than a generic transcript recap. OpenAI says audio data is deleted after the summary is generated.

This is distinct from the existing ChatGPT Record feature, which transcribes and summarizes meetings and voice notes and saves notes in ChatGPT; the new announcement's center of gravity is team collaboration — shared pages and project work, with meeting notes feeding into that workspace.
Why it matters
ChatGPT is moving from answering prompts into shared team documents and meeting follow-up — the daily workflow territory of Google Docs, Notion, and Microsoft Teams. Control over personal context and access will matter as much as the generated notes: the summary is meant to reflect a user's ongoing work, so teams will need clear controls over which personal context informs shared work and who can see the resulting notes. OpenAI's posts did not spell out how the new Meetings feature handles meeting access or sharing controls in practice.
