OpenAI to sell its models and Codex through Google Cloud

OpenAI is putting its models on one more major cloud platform. Its frontier models and the Codex coding agent are headed to Google Cloud, giving enterprises another way to buy and deploy them.

OpenAI will make its frontier AI models and Codex coding agent available through Google Cloud in the coming weeks, the companies said on Wednesday, according to a Reuters report.

The partnership brings OpenAI's latest models, including GPT-6 Astra, to Google Cloud's Model Garden. Customers will be able to buy them through Google Cloud Marketplace and use existing cloud spending commitments to pay for them.

Customers in regulated industries get access through Google Cloud's access controls, data governance tools and infrastructure, and can build agentic AI workflows on top.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian has previously said the platform is open and welcomes any model that is popular with developers.

#Why it matters

Google is the latest major hyperscaler to offer OpenAI models. OpenAI's exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft expired in April, and OpenAI had already expanded distribution to Amazon Web Services.

The move matters because buying through a hyperscaler's marketplace lets enterprises spend existing cloud commitments on OpenAI products instead of signing new contracts. And it underscores how much cloud distribution now drives AI revenue. Anthropic's IPO filing, reviewed by Reuters, showed that 47 percent of its 2025 revenue came through Amazon's and Google's cloud platforms.
