OpenAI posts a retake of the DevDay Dots demo: "dots demo. Now... with better WiFi"

Verified· Oct 2, 2026Published Oct 2, 2026

On Oct 1, OpenAIDevs posted a cleaner retake of the DevDay Dots demo ("Now... with better WiFi") after the original froze live on Sep 29. Same product — no access or quota changes.

What happened

On October 1, OpenAI's developer account posted a retake of the DevDay 2026 Dots demo, captioned "dots demo. Now... with better WiFi." The roughly nine-minute clip is a cleaner version of the on-stage demo — the original DevDay stream had audio trouble and a second demo also failed on stage (covered in our earlier post on Sep 29). The clip had drawn about 1.6 million views when checked. This is the same product, not a new SKU: access, quota, and permission rules did not change with the post. Reply chatter about a handheld FX3 or a wobbly camera is production detail, not product news.

Why it matters

Dots freezing during its first live demo became one of the defining images of DevDay 2026 — a public retake is OpenAI's official do-over, and it lands while the agent is still rolling out. It also shows OpenAI playing the launch in public: rather than quietly shipping the clip, it answered its most-memed demo failure directly.
