Codex's Auto-review — a second agent that screens the primary agent's actions — is now free for anyone signed in with a ChatGPT account, and it won't draw from your usage allowance.

What happened

OpenAI's Thibault Sottiaux (Tibo) posted that Codex's Auto-review feature is now free for all users signed in through a ChatGPT account — Day 2 of his 28-day pledge to ship one clear improvement every day (or grant a full usage reset that day).

What Auto-review does

Auto-review replaces the default sandbox behavior that requires you to approve every action, which Tibo says causes decision fatigue unless you configure lots of specific rules. Instead, you can run long tasks while a second agent reviews all actions taken by the primary agent. Its stated goal is to prevent high-risk actions and protect against actions that are not aligned with the original user intent.

How to enable it

Settings > Permissions > Auto-review.

Why it matters

Auto-review previously consumed plan usage; now it's free and does not draw usage from your plan. It arrives alongside yesterday's default speed boost (~50% faster across GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol for subscribers) as Tibo's Day 1 and Day 2 improvements.
