Tibo Day 14: Codex adds message editing inside desktop app threads
Tibo posted Oct 19 that Codex now lets users edit previous messages within a thread in the desktop app. A long-requested quality-of-life improvement, shipped as day 14 of his 28-day ship-or-reset pledge.
What happened
Codex now lets users edit previous messages within a thread in the desktop app, a long-requested quality-of-life improvement. Tibo Sottiaux (@thsottiaux) announced it in an X post on Oct 19, 2026 (01:20 UTC), writing: "Day 14/ Small quality of life improvement. You can now edit previous messages within a thread in the desktop app. Long time requested, and took way too long to get that one out." This is day 14 of his 28-day pledge (Oct 5 - Nov 1) to ship one improvement or do a full usage reset every day.
Why it matters
Editing a prior message lets you fix a bad instruction mid-thread without starting the run over — a basic affordance ChatGPT users take for granted that desktop Codex users had been asking for. It is a small UX debt payment in the middle of a month Tibo is using to close out long-standing papercuts.
