Tibo: GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol default speed now ~50% faster for subscribers
OpenAI's Codex product lead Thibault Sottiaux says default inference speed is now ~50% faster across GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol for subscribers, opening Day 1 of his 28-day ship-or-reset program.
What happened
Thibault Sottiaux (@thsottiaux), OpenAI's Codex product lead, announced on X that OpenAI "optimized the default speed to be ~50% faster across GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol through the subscription across all our products and partners using Sign in With ChatGPT (including OpenCode, Pi, Amp, Devin, ...)." He added: "No changes needed on your end and this should be felt within the next two hours." In a companion post he said the models are "Reaching 50 TPS instead of 30TPS, with also the most optimized tokenizer out there."
Why it matters
This is "Day 1" of the 28-day improvement pledge Sottiaux announced yesterday: ship one clear improvement for Codex/Work users every day, or ship a full usage reset. Day 1 is a pure speed gain — the same models, no price change, no user action required — and it extends to third-party coding tools that run on subscribers' ChatGPT subscriptions via Sign in with ChatGPT, including OpenCode, Pi, Amp and Devin.
