Tibo puts his dot on inbox duty: down from 9,000+ unread to 6,110

OpenAI's product head handed his dot a real-world mission: 9,000+ unread emails down to 6,110, targeting inbox zero within 48 hours.

What happened

OpenAI's head of product Thibault Sottiaux (Tibo) gave his own dot a real-world test late Thursday night: clearing his email backlog. He posted on X at about 11pm PT on October 1: "Down to 6110 unread from the over 9000 unread emails just earlier. Will get to inbox zero with clean filters within the next 48 hours. Dot has accepted the challenge." Roughly 2,900 messages cleared so far, with inbox zero targeted within 48 hours.

Why it matters

Tibo runs the core product group behind ChatGPT, Codex, and Dots. Days after DevDay's launch, this is the clearest look yet at a dot doing unglamorous background work for OpenAI's own product lead — not a demo, but a real 9,000-email backlog. Earlier the same evening he also showed off dots generating pet avatars on demand ("create a pet and set it as your avatar"). Direct chats with a dot cost nothing toward ChatGPT usage limits, which helps explain why Tibo treats the primary dot as effectively unlimited.
