Tibo says he can't give a Codex reset — your primary dot is "virtually unlimited"
Thibault Sottiaux told X users on Oct 1 that he "can't really give a reset" since usage on the primary dot is virtually unlimited — hinting he'll have to "come up with something new fast."
What happened
What Tibo said
OpenAI's Codex lead Thibault "Tibo" Sottiaux has the closest thing to an official answer for the reset-watch crowd. Posted October 1, about five hours before this article:
"Because usage on your primary dot is virtually unlimited at the moment, I can't really give a reset. I need to come up with something new fast."
Context: the reset streak
Tibo has announced goodwill usage-limit resets on X through the summer and fall — the last fully verified global reset landed September 26 ("Resets all propagated. That will be all. Have a fantastic weekend."). Reset trackers also record banked resets handed out at the DevDay 2026 keynote on September 29. Today's post is the first time he has publicly said a reset is off the table.
Why it matters
- The manual-reset ritual may be winding down: if primary-dot usage is effectively uncapped, there is nothing left to reset.
- The caveat is "at the moment" — the Codex/ChatGPT Work weekly and 5-hour limit windows still exist as separate budgets.
- His "something new fast" line suggests a replacement goodwill gesture is being dreamed up — but that is speculation until he actually announces it.
