Tibo asks Pro users: double your weekly quota in exchange for bringing back 5-hour limits

Tibo ran an X poll asking Pro 100/200/500 users whether they would trade 5-hour rolling limits for doubled weekly quotas. He said the results surprised him. No rule change announced.
What happened
- Thibault "Tibo" Sottiaux, who works on Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI, posted an X poll asking Pro users to choose: (a) restore 5-hour rolling usage limits on Codex and ChatGPT Work but double the total weekly quota, or (b) keep the current setup with no 5-hour limits and the current weekly quota.
- In a follow-up post, Tibo wrote that the poll results confused him: he had expected results to sway much more favorably toward the 2X weekly quota option across Pro 100/200/500 at the cost of bringing back 5-hour limits, to smoothen the demand curve.
- Context: on Sep 29 Tibo had publicly promised not to reintroduce the 5-hour limit. Five-hour limits were restored for Plus accounts back in August. Pro 200's allowance cut from 20x to 10x of Plus takes effect Oct 30, 2026.
- This is a consultation only. OpenAI has not announced any formal change to quota rules.
Why it matters
- Rolling 5-hour windows cap bursts of heavy use but can block deadline work even when weekly quota remains; the trade Tibo is floating would exchange flexibility for raw capacity on Pro 100/200/500.
- The poll follows a string of goodwill usage resets for Codex and ChatGPT Work, and community members are already proposing third options (e.g. optional 24-hour "Flex Days" on the developer forum).
