Chasing mover quotes over several days? Give your Dot the criteria and let it own the outreach

Observed· Oct 16, 2026Published Oct 16, 2026

An OpenAI team member’s field report, amplified by OpenAI Developers, shows a Dot running multi-day mover outreach until a fit met the criteria. Official Dots docs match: always-on work, connected email, cloud browser. Reported savings are not independently verified.

What changed

Nick (@nickbaumann_) published a write-up on how his Dot handled finding movers from San Francisco to New York. He gave it move dates, what needed to move, and a budget signal, then gradually handed over permission to research companies, send outreach, fill quote forms, and keep marketplace conversations going over several days. OpenAI Developers reposted the thread.

The pattern he describes matches what OpenAI’s Getting started with your dot Help Center article already says Dots are for: an always-on agent with its own cloud computer that can keep making progress between conversations, use connected apps such as email, and turn to you for decisions that need judgment. In the report, the Dot used connected Gmail for email threads and its cloud browser for a Shiply listing and site-native messaging — work that stretches across days rather than a single chat turn.

Who is affected

ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users who have a Dot (and Enterprise users whose admin has enabled the beta), especially anyone staring at multi-day vendor outreach: movers, contractors, venues, photographers, or small production quotes. Anyone without Dots access, or without email and browser permissions set for the Dot, cannot run this playbook as written.

What to do now

  • Write acceptance criteria first: what you need moved or hired, date windows, budget ceiling, and which details the Dot may share on your behalf.
  • Connect email (and any marketplace logins the Dot will need). Complete sign-in or takeover on the Dot’s cloud browser when a site asks.
  • Start with permission per outreach message, then widen trust once the Dot’s tone and filters look right. Tell it to bring options that fit before booking, and to ping you when judgment is required.
  • Prefer jobs that are mostly async back-and-forth over days. One-shot research in a normal ChatGPT chat is usually enough for that; this tip is for the long chase.
  • Review every quote and contract yourself before money or booking. Treat the Dot as the coordinator, not the signer.

What is not confirmed

This is a field report from an OpenAI team member, not a product changelog. DotsFeed has not independently verified the message counts, the final price, or the “about $3k saved” figure. Marketplace availability, quote quality, and how far a Dot may go without you vary by account permissions, connected apps, and custom rules. The Help Center confirms the capabilities (always-on work, email, cloud browser) but does not document this specific movers workflow.
