Global ChatGPT reset set for 10am Pacific on Oct 2

#What changed

Tibo (@thsottiaux, Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI) said on X that a global reset will land at 10:00 AM Pacific on Friday, Oct 2, 2026, for all paid ChatGPT accounts. He posted this around 7:15 PM PT on Thursday, Oct 1, so "tomorrow" is Oct 2.

Earlier the same day he had said he could not offer a reset because primary-dot usage was virtually unlimited (that post). This newer post announces a reset anyway. It does not say that direct work on the primary dot starts drawing from a usage meter.

In the same message he also said GPT-6.1 Sol is back to expected speed after a heavy load spike in its first two days. That speed note is separate from the reset clock.

#Who is affected

Paid ChatGPT accounts, in his words. He did not name Plus, Pro, Business, or any other plan, and he did not say free accounts are included.

#What to do now

Do not treat the meter as refreshed yet. Check usage after 10:00 AM Pacific on Oct 2. He wrote "PST"; on that date the Pacific clock is still daylight time (UTC-7), so 10:00 AM local Pacific is 17:00 UTC if he meant the local clock rather than literal standard time.

Until OpenAI says otherwise, keep treating direct primary-dot work as not drawing Codex usage. A Codex task the dot starts can still draw usage, based on his earlier clarification.

#What is not confirmed

This is a post on X, not an official changelog. He did not say which meter resets (Codex, ChatGPT messages, API, or another window), how large the refill is, or whether it repeats. Whether "10am PST" means 10:00 local Pacific or 10:00 literal PST (18:00 UTC) is not spelled out. He also did not confirm that primary-dot direct work stays off the meter after this reset.
