Sharing a ChatGPT Space page? Your chats stay private, but whatever lands on the page doesn't
Sharing a Space page doesn't hand teammates your private chats or Memory, but anything ChatGPT writes onto the page is visible to every viewer. Collaborators' own Memory and training settings also apply to shared content, so check the page before you share.
What changed
Tibo posted a short video from the team explaining what ChatGPT Space is, and the replies filled up with one worry: will my teammates see what I've told ChatGPT? OpenAI's Space help article answers it. Each collaborator works with their own ChatGPT, and sharing a page doesn't give anyone your private chats or your Memory. The catch is that anything written onto the page is visible to everyone who can view it, and a few other details are easy to miss.
Who is affected
Anyone on Pro, Business, or Enterprise who shares pages or spaces in ChatGPT Space, on the web or in the desktop app. In Business and Enterprise workspaces, your organization's sharing settings also decide what you can share.
What to do now
- If Memory is on, read the page before you share it. ChatGPT may pull personal context into a page while it helps you write, and once it's on the page, every viewer can read it.
- Don't assume your settings protect shared content. A collaborator whose Memory is on may have their ChatGPT remember what's on the page even if your Memory is off, and shared content can be used for training through someone else's account if their training setting is on. OpenAI says it doesn't train on Business or Enterprise data by default.
- Watch summaries of restricted files. Linking a file doesn't change who can open it, but if ChatGPT copies or summarizes it onto a shared page, everyone who can view the page can read that text.
- When you remove someone, check how they got access. Removing a direct invite doesn't remove access they inherit from a parent page or space, and moving a page can change who sees it.
- Before you delete a parent page, look at its subpages. Deleting it sends every subpage to Trash, including ones other people own.
What is not confirmed
The video itself doesn't lay out these rules; they come from OpenAI's help article. DotsFeed hasn't tested how Memory behaves on shared pages.
