Taking your Pro dot to Europe, the UK, or Switzerland? It can vanish from the app for now, so save what you need first

Pro users say their dot vanished from the app after arriving in Europe or the UK. Tibo says dots made elsewhere will keep working in the EU and dots are coming there later, but neither has a date. Save trip plans and files outside your dot before you go.

What changed

Since Oct 17, several Pro users on X have reported that their dot disappeared from the ChatGPT and Codex apps after they arrived in Spain, Denmark, the UK, or elsewhere in Europe. One traveler said they lost access to the trip plan and files their dot had been building. Another said the dot vanished from the app but kept sending notifications.

On Oct 18, Tibo (Thibault Sottiaux at OpenAI) answered one of these reports. He said dots aren't available in the EU yet, and that OpenAI is changing two things: (a) a dot you created somewhere else will keep working if you travel into the EU, and (b) dots are coming to the EU in the future. He didn't give a date for either.

OpenAI's help center matches the region rule. Dots on Pro are for users over 18 outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. Business Premium has dots across all supported ChatGPT regions, and Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare workspaces get a beta that an admin has to turn on.

Who is affected

ChatGPT Pro users with a dot who travel to, or live in, the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK. Business Premium users aren't covered by the Pro region rule.

What to do now

  • Before a trip to Europe, the UK, or Switzerland, ask your dot to send you anything you'll need on the road, like itineraries, bookings, and drafts, by email or into a doc you can open without it.
  • Don't plan a trip around your dot doing work for you while you're there until OpenAI confirms the fix is live.
  • If your dot is already gone while you're in one of those regions, don't delete or recreate it. Per Tibo's note, the plan is for dots created elsewhere to keep working, so wait for the change.
  • If you need a dot in Europe today, the supported route is a Business Premium workspace, or an Enterprise, Edu, or Healthcare workspace whose admin has turned the beta on.

What is not confirmed

As of Sunday morning PT, the fix for existing dots wasn't live. A reply to Tibo's post from someone who made their dot in New York said it was still missing in the EU. There's no date for either change. Whether a dot's history and files come back once it works again hasn't been confirmed. A few users outside Europe, including one in South Africa, said their dot also went missing from the Codex desktop app while still working on the web. That may be a separate issue, and nobody has checked it independently. These are user field reports, and DotsFeed didn't test any of it.
