Reset
Thinking of buying an instant Codex reset? Use up your allowance first, because it restarts your weekly clock
Paid instant resets for Codex and ChatGPT Work limits refill your 5-hour and weekly windows right away, but they throw away any unused allowance and move your weekly reset day. Use what you have before you buy.
Since early October, some Plus and Pro users have been offered a paid "instant reset" for their Codex and ChatGPT Work limits. People on X are posting prices they saw at checkout (for example, @harrypark saw $25 and @Moriarty_tech saw $50 on Pro), and some were surprised that their weekly reset day moved afterward. OpenAI's help article explains how it works. The important detail is timing: a paid reset doesn't add usage on top of what you have. It moves your next week's allowance up to now.
What changed
Eligible Plus and Pro personal accounts can now buy an instant reset that brings both the 5-hour and the weekly Codex/Work usage windows back to full right away. There are two ways in: Buy an instant reset next to the usage meter in desktop Usage settings (it only shows up after you've used part of your allowance), or the in-app offer banner that appears once you've hit the weekly limit. Hitting only the 5-hour limit doesn't bring up the banner.
Who is affected
ChatGPT Plus and Pro personal accounts on ChatGPT web and the Codex desktop app. It isn't offered on Free, Go, Business, Enterprise, or Edu. Availability and price can differ by account and billing country, so two people on the same plan may see different offers, or none.
What to do now
- Use up what you have first. The reset applies the moment you pay, even if you still have usage left, and any unused allowance is gone. If you'd rather use the rest first, hold off on buying.
- Expect a new reset day. Your new weekly period starts with your first Codex or Work request after the reset, and the next automatic reset is 7 days after that request, not 7 days after you paid. Your old reset day is replaced, not added to.
- Check whether your normal reset is close. If it's only hours away, waiting is usually cheaper than paying.
- Compare it with credits. Usage credits are a separate pay-as-you-go balance that kicks in after you've used your included limits, and they don't move your reset day. A paid reset also isn't a banked reset: you can't save it or schedule it for later.
- Know the refund policy. OpenAI says it generally doesn't refund reset purchases. Receipts are under Settings > Usage & Billing in the desktop app, or Settings > Billing on the web.
What is not confirmed
OpenAI doesn't publish a price list. The $25 and $50 figures are what individual users said they saw at checkout, and nobody has independently verified them. The help article says prices and eligibility vary by account. We also haven't confirmed whether every eligible account has the option yet.
